The Probation Aide training program is designed to offer various types of trainee or entry level opportunities in a variety of settings within the Adult Probation Department. The position will provide an introduction to Probation career options and role models while allowing incumbents to learn about the Adult Probation Department’s work environment. The Adult Probation Department uses evidence-based supervision practices to provide meaningful supervision and case management for probation clients under the Department's supervision. The Department specializes with gender specific, sex offender, domestic violence, gang, mental health, transitional aged youth, substance abuse, reentry services, victim restitution, post release community supervision and mandatory community supervision. The Adult Probation Department is committed to providing qualified candidates with valuable training and work experience in Probation Supervision. This assignment provides comprehensive exposure to probation services and supervision and can be extremely beneficial in preparing for a career in probation, law enforcement, social services, public government, and corrections entities.
Job Responsibility:
support probation staff and management in performing routine job related tasks and special projects
maintain respectful relationships with probationers, victims, criminal justice partners, and other collaterals
perform data entry of information in records management systems
escort probationers to designated areas within the department
maintain attendance, progress, and other activities related to probationer performance
may be assigned to support educational, workforce development, and other programs related to probationer re-entry services
liaison between Deputy Probation Officer, Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office
outreach with outside agencies and programs in order to collect program materials and information about support services, and performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Training and Experience: Applicants will be required to meet guidelines as established for each program
requirements for previous training and experience will be minimal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires an indicated interest and aptitude in those skills associated with the target employment and a willingness and ability to acquire the needed skills and academic standards through training and work experience.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Computer-literate performer with software experience covering wide variety of applications
Strong organizational skills
Exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing. Bilingual or multi-lingual speaker, a plus.
Possesses human relations skills required to communicate effectively, and with sensitivity to client’s needs
Familiarity working with diverse population
Ability to self-motivate and work independently with minimum supervision
Flexible team player who thrives in environments requiring ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple concurrent projects.
Flexibility with the development of new programs
Target application population for the program and additional requirements while employed in the program: Candidates pursuing a degree in the field of criminal justice, social and behavioral sciences, education, or a closely related field.
Background clearance required: Prior to employment with the Adult Probation Department, criminal records will be carefully reviewed
candidate must clear Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprinting, in order to determine eligibility for criminal history clearance.
