Job Description

The city of Somerville seeks a full-time Public Health Nurse (BSN required) to lead communicable disease surveillance, investigation, and prevention in coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This role manages case reporting in MAVEN, conducts outbreak investigations, oversees tuberculosis follow-up and Direct Observed Therapy, and supports vaccination clinics, including vaccine storage, inventory, and MIIS reporting in compliance with HIPAA and state law. The nurse collaborates with epidemiology and community partners to implement evidence-based prevention programs, advance health equity, conduct camp inspections, and deliver public health education. Responsibilities also include emergency preparedness planning, participation in Incident Command, and detailed clinical documentation. Performs other related duties that may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Active Massachusetts RN license

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from accredited institution required and from one to up to three years of experience in public or community health nursing or a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience
