Job Description

The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. Reporting to the Head of Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement, the Public Affairs and Campaigns Adviser will work collaboratively to develop and deliver public affairs and campaigns activity, influence parliamentary debates and legislation, build relationships in Parliament, support LGA councillors, organise events, provide political intelligence, and more. This is a fixed term role for 6 months based in Westminster.

Job Responsibility

  • Contribute to development and delivery of LGA’s public affairs and campaigns activity
  • contribute to delivery of Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement approach by influencing parliamentary debates, select committees and legislation
  • support delivery of LGA’s Communications Strategy by building and maintaining key relationships in Parliament and with stakeholders
  • support LGA councillors and member councils to engage with Parliament
  • organise high-impact public affairs events and ensure strong corporate profile at party conferences
  • provide political intelligence and advice
  • provide public affairs advice and support to member councils
  • ensure Public Affairs team is first point of contact for queries from MPs, peers, political parties, etc.
  • produce forward-looking grids summarising and scheduling public affairs activity
  • undertake out-of-hours duties as necessary

  • evidence of success in working to deliver public affairs plans and corporate campaigns
  • experience in aligning public affairs and campaigning activity with colleagues in other disciplines
  • ability to prioritise competing demands within a pressured environment and adopt a flexible approach to work
