As a Concrete Repair Operative, you will be responsible for the restoration and maintenance of rail-side structures, including bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, and platforms. This is a technical role that requires precision to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of critical rail assets.
Job Responsibility:
Surface Preparation: Using mechanical tools (breakers, grinders, or grit-blasting) to remove degraded concrete and expose reinforcement steel
Steel Reinforcement Treatment: Cleaning and applying anti-corrosion coatings to rebar
Repair Application: Mixing and applying specialist repair mortars (hand-placed or flowable) to meet engineering specifications
Finishing: Levelling, smoothing, and curing repaired sections to match existing profiles
Injections: (Where required) Carrying out resin or grout injections to seal structural cracks
Site Safety: Working strictly under the direction of the COSS and ensuring all specialist chemicals and tools are stored and used according to COSHH guidelines
Requirements:
Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety)
CSCS Card: Blue (Skilled Worker) in a relevant trade is highly preferred
Concrete Repair Experience: Proven track record in structural repairs (min. 2 years), ideally within a civil engineering or rail environment
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with industry-standard repair mortars (e.g., Sika, Fosroc, or Mapei)
Physical Fitness: Ability to work in confined spaces or at heights (if required) and handle heavy machinery
