Job Description

The Young Adult Unit at Sheppard Pratt – Baltimore/Washington Campus is a safe and welcoming 17-bed inpatient unit designed for the treatment of adults ages 18 to 30 experiencing acute mental health conditions. What to expect: The Psychiatrist on Sheppard Pratt’s Young Adult Unit provides expert psychiatric care for adults ages 18–30 with acute mental health conditions. This role includes conducting diagnostic and risk assessments, managing psychotropic medications, and developing individualized treatment plans tailored to the unique developmental needs of young adults. Patients may present with conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, first-break psychosis, and co-occurring substance use, often during their first psychiatric hospitalization. The Psychiatrist collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to monitor progress, adjust treatment, and ensure safe, effective transitions of care in a patient-centered, evidence-based environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and admission physicals
  • Prescribe and manage medications and provide individual or group therapies
  • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment strategies as needed
  • Ensure continuity of care and safe transitions to home or less restrictive settings
  • Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to promote seamless care delivery.

Requirements

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry
  • Active Maryland medical license with Controlled Substances Registration and valid DEA Certificate
  • Completion of a residency training program
  • Two years of experience preferred, including acute psychiatric care
  • Experience working with patients in acute behavioral health settings.
