Requirements

Associate’s degree in a human services related field
3 years of experience in human services
Experience in a psychiatric crisis or emergency setting (Preferred)
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to analyze complex problems and formulate evidence-informed plans, solutions and courses of actions
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
Ability to speak Spanish, Vietnamese or be fluent in American Sign Language (Preferred)
Must possess valid New York State Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record

Job Responsibility

Functions as a member of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Mobile Crisis Team, serving patients in mental health crisis within the community
Functions as a mentor to the Crisis Specialist staff to ensure consistent care and support is provided to patients and families
Responsible for training of new Crisis Specialist staff
Functions as Mobile Crisis Team Dispatcher, responsible for case assignment to the teams in the field
Tracks, monitors and communicates with crisis staff in the field
Responsible for timely and efficient response to referrals received
Assists with hiring and mentoring of staff and provides guidance under the direction of the Mobile Crisis Team Director
Senior Crisis Specialists coordinate the dispatching of Mobile Crisis Teams in the community to ensure all areas of need are covered
Responsible for use of independent judgement to determine acuity of crisis referrals in order to dispatch teams accordingly
Responsible for making contact with teams in the field to allocate resources appropriately

Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work (CSWE)
Licensure as a social worker, as defined by the State Board for Social Work, State Education Department, Division of Professional Licensing Services
1-3 years professional social work practice beyond the master's degree, at least one of which must include psychiatric emergency, crisis or outreach work Preferred
Knowledge about and ability to provide behavioral health assessments/evaluations and evidenced based interventions

Job Responsibility

Functions as a crisis call therapist providing crisis phones services
Provides crisis intervention, assessment/evaluation, triaging, resource consultation, and brief treatment
Provides psychosocial assessment to patients via phone who are at exceptional psychosocial risk
Follows designated workflows outlined in the Crisis Call Manual
Establishes and completes loop of communication with current providers or community services workers
Responsible for decision-making regarding appropriate referrals
Mobilizes family and natural support networks when necessary
Makes referrals to inpatient or outpatient mental health rehabilitation programs
