Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Proving Test Technician to join a global engineering development team. In this role, you will work on a variety of powertrain installation, integration, shakedown, and testing projects for off-highway machines and heavy vehicles. This position offers hands-on exposure to a diverse range of technical environments, including traditional Internal Combustion (IC) engines, electric systems, and electric vehicle (EV) workshops, with technicians rotating between workshops to gain broader skills.

Job Responsibility

  • Install prototype, pilot, and production powertrains into various off-highway machinery
  • Instrument powertrains with speed pickups, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and other sensors
  • Diagnose and fix mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on both powertrains and full machines
  • Read engineering drawings to manufacture parts using manual machining, welding, and fabrication tools, and produce electrical looms
  • Operate a range of off-highway vehicles (such as excavators, telehandlers, and loaders) within the test facility, adhering strictly to health and safety procedures and 5S standards

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in a workshop, testing, or maintenance environment working with engines, automotive systems, or heavy machinery
  • Strong diagnostic and testing skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to work across IC, electric, or EV platforms is highly valued
  • Proficiency in using hand/power tools, lifting equipment, and welding gear, alongside the ability to interpret electrical and mechanical engineering drawings
  • A completed or ongoing engineering or motor mechanics apprenticeship, or a relevant higher education qualification (such as NVQ Level 3), is highly desirable
  • Must be an adaptable team player who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and is eager to learn across different functions
  • Good PC literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Perform seal integrity testing on a sample of produced materials
  • Employ various methods of testing such as freeze mode, destructive oven testing and striation testing
  • Examine and verify that documentation meets requirements
  • Transport samples to and from work area with a Powered Industrial Truck (PIT)
  • Document and initiate the exception process if exception is encountered using the Production Operations Management System (POMS) to research and provide details
