Shopify is the world's leading commerce platform, and we care deeply about protecting the people who help build it. Our Protective Services team supports global physical security operations, safety, emergency management, travel safety, executive protection, threat management, and office security so Shopifolk can do their best work safely. We are looking for a Protective Intelligence Analyst, Security Operations with strong security operations experience to support an intelligence-led approach to protecting Shopify’s people, offices, events, and operations. This is an in-person role based in Toronto. The role blends time-sensitive intelligence monitoring analysis, corporate security operations, and incident management. This role should be comfortable moving between analysis and operational action.

Job Responsibility

  • Conduct behavioural threat investigations and gather relevant information from operational analysts and other internal or external sources
  • Assess the credibility and severity of threats to Shopify’s people, assets, and operations and decide when to escalate with clear recommendations and supporting rationale
  • Support operational analysts who deliver day-to-day monitoring, triage, and reporting
  • Apply documented escalation thresholds, provide guidance during active incidents, and help improve the consistency and quality of reporting, judgment, and response
  • Support office and in-person security operations, including access control and monitoring, guard response, site procedures, event support, and operational readiness, and the handling of workplace security incidents and policy violations
  • Help shape the program’s reactive intelligence priorities, workflows, and reporting practices by identifying gaps, improving processes, and translating emerging risks into timely, actionable assessments for security operations and stakeholders
  • Direct the program’s reactive intelligence to enable Shopify to react to short-notice and emerging developments that could affect Shopify’s people, assets, and operations
  • Ensure that assessments are timely, accurate, and add value to Shopify security operations
  • Coordinate response actions, stakeholder updates, documentation, escalation, and follow-up for security incidents, while applying established escalation thresholds and identifying opportunities to improve response consistency
  • Identify, research, and assess threats or vulnerabilities that may create physical risk to people, offices, events, or business operations, producing timely and actionable intelligence products
  • Provide operational overwatch during escalations by helping operators and analysts maintain situational awareness, apply escalation standards, and identify timely course-correction recommendations
  • Contribute to reporting reviews, after-action learning, and improvements to procedures, playbooks, templates, and workflows
  • Prioritize and drive initiatives that mature security operations by developing artefacts that include playbooks, training materials, escalation frameworks, quality assurance, and response workflows
  • Support vendor relationships and ensure security tools and systems can meet current and future operational and intelligence needs
  • Identify internal and external solutions to obtain, review, and process information ethically and legally
  • Provide ad-hoc intelligence analysis support to key security stakeholders as needed
  • Use existing, and support in developing, AI-enabled tools responsibly to support summarization, pattern recognition, briefing preparation, and workflow efficiency, while validating outputs through human judgment and reliable sources

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years in operational, analytical, investigative, and/or protective services disciplines
  • Experience leading, coaching, or guiding a team of operational analysts, investigators, or intelligence professionals
  • Ability to work through ambiguous or time-sensitive situations with sound judgment, clear communication, and appropriate escalation
  • Demonstrated experience supporting executive protective services teams
  • Proficient in using various social media platforms and open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief leaders clearly and concisely
  • Ability to produce accurate, timely, and actionable reports with minimal oversight
  • Experience collaborating with global and regional teams
  • Proven ability to handle confidential, sensitive, and personal information with care and discretion
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality work
  • Skilled in managing multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Comfort using AI-enabled tools responsibly, including understanding privacy considerations, validation requirements, and the limits of AI-generated analysis
  • Ability to summarize qualitative data into graphs, charts, and explain key insights to stakeholders
  • Ability to work in person in Toronto and support occasional evenings, weekends, as required
