This role is responsible for supporting the General Property underwriting team with desktop account reviews, onsite surveys and client/broker meetings for a diverse portfolio of general property risks. This is an Account Engineering (different from Field Engineering) role that provides Underwriting with a holistic risk control review and understanding of the account to support a sound underwriting decision-making process. While the role will involve some site surveys (or fieldwork), and travel, it is fundamentally an office‑based position. The expectation is that the individual will be physically present in the office, working closely with the Underwriting Teams for the vast majority of the time. The role will offer exposure to a wide variety of accounts, ranging in size, hazards, and complexity as part of day-to-day activity. It will also have a focus on Semiconductor, Pulp & Paper, Motlen Metal, Heavy Industries, Real Estate etc. This role is perfect for a highly motivated engineer who seeks diversity of role and an interest in complex and technically challenging risks.
Job Responsibility:
Evaluate complex risks and exposures by conducting thoughtful and technical account risk reviews
Collaborate with Underwriters on new business opportunities and during the renewal process
Contribute to the development of technical resources and engineering guidelines
Create content and present to Underwriting team on emerging and changing risks
Participate in customer and broker meetings to strengthen our relationships and deliver our value-add proposition
Work with the BHSI Claims team on technical matters
Attend onsite surveys and risk evaluations where needed for underwriting purposes
Support other lines of business as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor (or higher) degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
Ideally at least 8-15 years of Risk Engineering experience
Knowledgeable in various occupancies as well as FM Data Sheets / NFPA codes
Excellent knowledge of general property industry, including experience of working onsite
Adept at assessing and reporting property risk issues and loss estimates
Mature & self-confident
able to work with customers, business partners and internal stakeholders
Excellent communication skills. Ability to produce concise and accurate technical information in a timely manner
Ability to multi-task and make quick decisions while maintaining integrity and quality standards
Have a strong desire to build something that adds long-term value to a forever business
Ability to travel – up to 20 % of time across Asia
Nice to have:
Knowledge or experience in Casualty, Builders’ Risks or Marine would be certainly be a plus
