We are looking for a Property Accountant to join a real estate property management company in Poway, California on a Contract to permanent basis. This permanent opportunity is ideal for an experienced accounting specialist who understands the financial demands of property operations and can manage multiple reporting and bookkeeping priorities with accuracy. The role supports core accounting functions, works closely with property managers and vendors, and contributes to timely financial close and analysis.
Job Responsibility:
Manage day-to-day property accounting activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash transactions, and general ledger maintenance
Review tenant financial records to verify ledger accuracy, deposits, prepayments, delinquencies, and applicable recurring charges
Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Calculate and record accruals related to items such as mortgages, insurance, and taxes to ensure complete and accurate reporting
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain reliable financial data
Analyze income and expense activity, helping support budgeting efforts and ongoing financial review
Assist with the preparation of financial statements and other reports required for property accounting operations
Communicate with off-site property managers and external vendors to resolve accounting questions and obtain needed documentation
Requirements:
At least 5 years of accounting experience, with strong preference for a background in real estate or property management
Degree in accounting, finance, or related coursework, or equivalent practical accounting experience
Demonstrated experience with core accounting systems and financial software
Familiarity with property management platforms such as Yardi or similar applications is preferred
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Detail-oriented approach, dependable work ethic, and flexibility when working with cross-functional contacts
Nice to have:
Background in real estate or property management
