We are looking for a dedicated Property Accountant to join our nonprofit team in Los Angeles, California. In this role, you will oversee the financial operations of affordable housing properties, ensuring compliance with Section 8 and low-income housing regulations. This is a Long-term Contract position, offering an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of underserved communities through your expertise in property accounting.
Job Responsibility:
Manage accounting functions for multiple affordable housing properties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
Maintain and update general ledgers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with nonprofit financial guidelines
Prepare detailed financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
Monitor subsidy payments and tenant rent collections, addressing discrepancies with housing agencies as needed
Support budgeting processes, variance analysis, and year-end audit preparation
Stay informed about Section 8 and affordable housing program regulations to ensure compliance
Collaborate with property managers and leadership to streamline financial reporting and internal controls
Assist with grant and restricted fund accounting to support broader nonprofit operations
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience in property accounting, preferably within Section 8 or affordable housing
Proficiency with accounting software such as Yardi, Sage Intacct, or QuickBooks
Strong knowledge of accrual accounting, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close processes
Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze financial data effectively
Familiarity with nonprofit accounting practices and fund accounting principles
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
