Job Description

We are looking for a Property Accountant to join a real estate team in Minneapolis, Minnesota on a Contract basis. In this role, you will oversee core accounting activities for a portfolio of seven residential properties, helping maintain accurate financial records and support timely reporting. This opportunity is well suited for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and has hands-on experience with Yardi and property-level accounting processes.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee daily accounting transactions for a portfolio of seven residential properties, ensuring records are complete and accurate within Yardi
  • Process vendor invoices by reviewing documentation, assigning proper coding, and coordinating payments in line with established timelines
  • Maintain receivable activity by recording rent charges, monitoring collections, and resolving account discrepancies
  • Contribute to monthly close activities through journal entry preparation, account analysis, and reconciliation of bank and balance sheet accounts
  • Keep the general ledger current by verifying entries and supporting accurate accrual-based accounting
  • Partner with property management staff to address tenant and vendor billing questions and resolve accounting-related issues efficiently
  • Prepare financial information and supporting schedules to assist with routine reporting requirements and deadline-driven deliverables
  • Follow internal accounting policies and control procedures to promote compliance and reliable financial reporting

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in property accounting or a closely related accounting role
  • Required hands-on experience using Yardi for day-to-day accounting tasks
  • Working knowledge of residential property accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close
  • Experience preparing journal entries, maintaining general ledger accuracy, and completing reconciliations
  • Proficiency with bank reconciliations, account analysis, and accrual-based accounting practices
  • Strong organizational skills with careful attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across several properties
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, analysis, and reporting
