Job Description

Project Manager – Traffic Engineering would provide project management oversight on traffic and transportation projects with a team of engineers and CAD designers. Project Manager – Traffic Engineering would function as a project lead with complete responsibility for traffic study, transportation planning, and traffic design projects. Project clients will include Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Indianapolis DPW, various cities and counties, and private clients.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide project management oversight on traffic and transportation projects with a team of engineers and CAD designers
  • Function as a project lead with complete responsibility for traffic study, transportation planning, and traffic design projects
  • Responsible for productivity of project team and ensures projects are on time and on budget
  • Mentor and develop less experienced traffic engineers and/or technical support and assist in developing a solid team
  • Manages traffic studies and transportation planning efforts
  • Manages traffic design projects or tasks within larger transportation projects
  • For traffic study projects: manages, performs, and coordinates the tasks for traffic data collection, crash data analysis, traffic forecasting, capacity analysis models, and report writing
  • For traffic design projects: manages, performs, and coordinates the tasks for CAD design, sign design, engineering plans, design calculations, specifications, quantities, and construction cost estimates
  • For all traffic projects: manages, performs, and coordinates the project budgets, schedules, project communications, and documentation
  • Supervise, motivate, and develop staff including junior staff in project management practices
  • Serve as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets, and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction
  • Perform internal quality control to ensure studies, designs, plans, and calculations are complete and accurate through all phases of the project
  • Participate in business development activities, assisting in the creation of letters of response, and technical proposals/presentations
  • Deliver quality traffic projects on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of the client

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET accredited college or university with an emphasis on traffic
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience serving clients on a wide variety of traffic engineering projects
  • A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license for civil engineering within the state of Indiana with the ability to obtain additional P.E. licenses in other states through reciprocity as needed
  • A Professional Transportation Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification

Nice to have

  • Familiarity of traffic study software and resources such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCM and HCS, Sidra, Miovision data collection, ITE trip generation, highway safety manual, crash history analysis, and RoadHAT
  • Familiarity of design software and resources such AutoCAD, MicroStation, SignCAD, GuideSIGN, INDOT design manual, and Indianapolis DPW design manual
