Job Description

The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing plans, specifications, and project requirements. This role plays a critical part in supporting project bidding, budgeting, and overall financial planning to ensure competitive and profitable project outcomes.

Job Responsibility

  • Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine scope, materials, labor, and timeline requirements
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor bids, and overhead
  • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing
  • Identify cost risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving strategies
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to clarify project scope and requirements
  • Maintain and update cost databases and historical pricing for accurate forecasting
  • Assist in preparing bid proposals, presentations, and supporting documentation
  • Track and analyze costs throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with estimates

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in construction estimating (commercial, residential, or industrial projects)
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, Procore, or similar tools)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software

Nice to have

  • Experience in commercial, multifamily, or public works projects
  • Familiarity with local subcontractor/vendor markets
  • Knowledge of contract types and procurement processes
