The Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing plans, specifications, and project requirements. This role plays a critical part in supporting project bidding, budgeting, and overall financial planning to ensure competitive and profitable project outcomes.
Job Responsibility
Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to determine scope, materials, labor, and timeline requirements
Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor bids, and overhead
Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing
Identify cost risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving strategies
Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to clarify project scope and requirements
Maintain and update cost databases and historical pricing for accurate forecasting
Assist in preparing bid proposals, presentations, and supporting documentation
Track and analyze costs throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with estimates
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
3+ years of experience in construction estimating (commercial, residential, or industrial projects)
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes
Experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, Procore, or similar tools)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software
Nice to have
Experience in commercial, multifamily, or public works projects
Familiarity with local subcontractor/vendor markets
Knowledge of contract types and procurement processes
