Primero USA’s team is currently looking for a Project Engineer. This is a unique opportunity to join our talented team and be part of Primero’s growth and success. Primero is an Australian-founded company, established in 2011 and growing consistently in Montreal since 2016. We expanded into Houston in 2022, Toronto in 2023, and Salt Lake City in 2026, strengthening our North American presence. We specialize in the design, procurement, and construction management of mineral processing plants. The Project Engineer will play a key role in supporting the successful execution of mining and heavy industrial projects across all project phases, from engineering and procurement through construction and commissioning. This role reports directly to the Engineering Manager. Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, the successful candidate will support project coordination, contractor management, technical problem-solving, and site execution activities while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within schedule and budget requirements. This role is ideal for a hands-on and adaptable engineer who enjoys balancing technical engineering responsibilities with project coordination and field execution in a fast-paced EPCM environment. The position may involve site activities depending on project requirements.
Job Responsibility
Day to day management of Project Teams, sub-contractors and Vendors, as allocated by the Project Manager, including conducting weekly meetings with contractors and internal project coordination meetings
Read and interpret specifications, technical drawings, schematics, and any other engineering documentation/reports
Perform calculations for site modification, lift studies and general site engineering problem solving using engineering formulas and skills
Apply US or Canadian Standards and codes or identify alternatives and solutions to code exceptions and devise new approaches to problems encountered
Provide technical management and quality control and assurance for all contractors’ works on site
Review contractor quality documentation and support project quality assurance activities
Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work
Inform relevant personnel of changes to design and/or scope that may impact deadlines, workloads, or assignments of the team or project and project budget
Stay abreast of the project design and construction schedules
Control and monitor contractor costs and variations through the utilization of project management skills
Monitor project scope creep and work with Project Manager on delivery of any additional client service requests
Develop satisfactory client relationships to ensure repeat business for the company
Complete and works in a timely fashion with a diligent attitude, while focusing on safety during all works
Remain up to date in developments in the profession and within the organization as appropriate
Participate and contribute to a team effort, exchanging ideas and recommending improvements
Perform self-appraisals and appraisals of any subordinates
Provide direction to all internal Project members during all Project phases’ activities to ensure schedule, budget and QA specifications are met
Manage sub-contractors and vendors during supply, construction and commissioning phases of any Project
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
3 to 7 years of experience in a similar role within the mineral processing, mining, or heavy industrial sectors
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (oral and written)
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook and in the use of scheduling tools – Primavera P6 preferred, but at a minimum MS Project
Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities in industrial or mining environments, including onsite exposure
Strong understanding of project execution, contractor coordination, project schedules, scope changes, and multidisciplinary project environments
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical documentation
Solid understanding of applicable engineering standards, codes, and regulations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve technical and site-related challenges
Comfortable working in a collaborative environment where technical discussions and team exchanges are part of day-to-day work
Proactive and solutions-oriented, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and project demands
