Job Description:

The Intermediate Engineer will be responsible for and/or support the administration, engineering design, contract preparation, tendering/procurement, project management and quality control of major storm, sanitary and water infrastructure capital projects. Specific project(s) will be assigned based on the selected engineer’s experience and capability.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • prepare in-house studies, budgets, executive reports, and other pertinent written documents to carry out projects
  • Engineer water, storm and sanitary infrastructure, including the determination of flow quantities, hydraulic analysis, route and materials selection, land requirements and cost estimates
  • Perform public presentations to interested groups, coordination of partner work teams and organization of Public Information Sessions
  • Prepare engineering construction drawings, obtaining all approvals, materials listing and tendering specifications for construction contracts
  • Contract administration duties during construction of major projects and direct the coordination of survey and drafting personnel, as required
  • Help in the resolution of any problems that may occur during the construction of projects
  • Prepare terms of references and subsequent consultant selection for projects

Requirements:

  • A degree in Engineering, preferably Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving P.Eng.
  • Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) is required
  • Knowledge of current design standards, urban development procedures, linear wastewater/stormwater design, and environmental standards will be essential for success
  • Excellent communication skills, tendering and administrating projects, and monitoring the work of consultants
