Job Description:

The Project Engineer (PE) is responsible for all technical and engineering aspects on assigned projects. The successful PE leads a multi-disciplined engineering team and works closely with Program Managers, functional groups, other departments, customers, and subcontractors/vendors, as necessary, to facilitate project completion, while meeting customer requirements. This role provides hands-on technical leadership, system integration oversight, and engineering governance for complex training systems. The Mid-level/Senior Project Engineer assigned to this role will have primary technical responsibility for the Maritime Integrated Training System (MITS) program.

Job Responsibility:

  • Serves as the program’s technical authority, responsible for overall technical design, system architecture, and hardware/software integration
  • Reviews, approves, and provides technical direction on requirements, specifications, designs, test plans, and technical milestones
  • Ensures hardware/software integration issues are identified, tracked, and resolved
  • Oversees engineering release processes to ensure technical integrity, configuration control, and compliance
  • Ensures final delivered products accurately represent the target aircraft or maritime platform and meet all requirements
  • Coordinates and directs engineering activities across training device programs within a matrixed organization
  • Identifies technical risks, integration challenges, and resource constraints
  • Communicates technical status, schedule impacts, and risk mitigation strategies to Program Management
  • Provides engineering support during manufacturing, integration, test, and acceptance phases
  • Participates as a presenter or technical reviewer in internal and external program reviews
  • Builds and supports high-performing, multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Provides technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to engineers
  • Works collaboratively with functional engineering groups, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and other departments
  • Leads engineering coordination in a matrix environment
  • Serves as the program’s primary technical representative during customer acceptance activities
  • Interfaces directly with customers, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues
  • Supports new business development and proposal efforts
  • May serve as a technical proposal lead on assigned pursuits
  • Represents ASI engineering at relevant third-party stakeholder meetings

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ engineering experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience developing complex hardware/software systems
  • Minimum of 3 years’ direct experience as a Project Engineer in Maritime based training/simulation systems (Preferred)
  • Experience leading and managing engineering teams
  • Experience working with customers and product managers to identify needs and translate into technical requirements, with a focus on government customers
  • Strong background in software development (Preferred)
  • Experience with simulator design, development, integration, and testing (Preferred)
  • Experience in maritime simulation industry standards and regulatory requirements (Preferred)
  • Must be able to effectively lead teams in a matrix environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to adapt communication style and messaging to different audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a project-oriented, fast paced environment to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of formal software development practices including the use of software configuration management, coding standards, and style guides
  • Proficiency in common business software (Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Visio, SharePoint)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software, Computer, Aerospace, Marine, or related discipline) from an accredited institution is strongly preferred
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Must be able to successfully pass an initial background screening
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
  • Must be able and willing to travel domestically and, on occasion, internationally
  • Must be able to perform normal office duties (sitting for long periods)
  • Must be able to travel CONUS/OCONUS via multiple types of transportation
  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator

Nice to have:

  • 3 years’ experience working on Maritime based training/simulation devices
  • Experience in maritime simulation industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Advanced degrees (M.S. or higher) in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field
