Job Responsibility:

  • Responsible for the development of products and solutions in the field of oleochemistry and biotechnology for cosmetic, active and cleaning applications in the China region, if necessary also globally
  • Lead technical scouting activities for new products and/or technologies
  • Lead, contribute and exchange proactively and independently with global experts in the related fields
  • Independent project management in the field of oleochemistry and biotechnology with internal and external customers/partners
  • If necessary, lead a team of lab engineers for project related tasks
  • Conduct independently and pro-actively literature searches, evaluate and apply for new products or processes
  • Responsible for conception and implementation of practice oriented laboratory program to demonstrate process feasibility with essential chemical/technical parameters, definition of operating conditions, safety and quality parameters for scale up
  • Also, efficient collaborations with internal labs and/or external partners
  • Lead and contribute to business cases, research funding to quantify current costs, justify project investment, and identify the return on investment
  • Independent analysis of IP landscape and pro-active development of own IP
  • Lead transfer of products into production scale according to the NPI process
  • Troubleshooting and process optimization
  • Contributes to the GCR R&D innovation platform
  • Responsibility for lab management including chemical, process, equipment safety

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Synthetic Biology or Bioengineering
  • Preferably solid knowledge in organic chemistry/chemistry engineering (could be in bachelor study)
  • Preferably at least 3 years of working experience in bio technology projects related to gene sequence design, strain construction, fermentation and purification process development, etc.
  • Strong communication skills required in dealing with internal stakeholders both locally and globally and with external cooperation partners, both commercially and technically
  • Good oral and written English and Chinese language skills (most projects stakeholders are foreigners)
  • Good logic thinking and presentation skills (good at tools including Microsoft and AI platforms)
  • Strong information sourcing skills via multiple channels to explore new direction, technology or materials, potential cooperation partners in China or Asia market and being able to initially evaluate its technical values
  • Good at people connections to gather information and set foundations for projects
  • Able to work independently, highly motivated and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Entrepreneurship, self-determination and quick learner
