SCB is looking for a creative, passionate, and driven designer to work on mixed-use multi-family, adaptive reuse, aviation, commercial office and higher education projects in our Chicago office. The ideal candidate will exhibit a passion for design, show a willingness to work in a collaborative environment, and possess a full understanding of materials, details and construction techniques. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of talented and collaborative professionals on all aspects of project design and development under the oversight of a Project Manager and/or Principal. You will also lead and closely collaborate with the project team, including consultants, to prepare technical drawings, studies, and other collateral related to interior design.
Job Responsibility:
Implement project design philosophy and work toward the successful execution of the project through design and construction phases
Prepare design details, technical drawings, and solutions to complex architectural and interdisciplinary problems and coordinate work with others on the project team and external consultants
Exhibit a thorough working knowledge of innovative interior architectural finishes, including familiarity with manufacturers and performance standards to meet the client’s expectations
Organize the work efforts of SCB’s project team on a day-to-day basis and function as the primary facilitator of communication between the in-house team, external consultants, and the client
Coordinate FF&E requirements in the technical drawings and specifications
Ensure that the design intent is clearly and accurately reflected in the technical drawings and specifications
Lead team meetings and client presentations, working closely with multidisciplinary teams
Mentor and train junior staff in a constructive and thoughtful manner
Requirements:
Accredited professional degree in interior design or architecture
5 – 15 years post-graduate, full-time working experience in a design or architectural firm
NCIDQ Certificate Holder, Registered Interior Designer or Licensed Architect preferred
A strong design sensibility and attention to detail
Experience in residential and commercial office interiors is preferred
Thorough understanding of all project phases including programming, space planning, color and material selections, FF&E selections, schematic design, design development, and construction documents
Capable of performing all construction phase activities including review of shop drawings, material samples, responding to Contractor questions (RFI’s) and conducting site visits
Working knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, local building codes and accessibility requirements
Ability to lead a project including consultants and internal staff
Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, and graphics software such as Affinity and Adobe Creative Suite
familiarity with software programs such as Enscape, SketchUp, and Rhino
Excellent communication and presentation skills
