We are looking for a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support the financial administration of construction projects in Highland, Indiana. This role partners closely with project teams to keep contract records current, manage customer billing, and maintain accurate cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, confidence working with project documentation, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external customers.
Job Responsibility:
Partner with Project Managers and support personnel to review contract documents, process revisions, and keep project records aligned with approved changes
Record change requests in the accounting system and maintain accurate, current cost details for assigned construction projects
Prepare customer invoices for project work, submit billing documentation on schedule, and enter billing data into external platforms when required
Manage project-related compliance documents by preparing and tracking lien waivers, affidavits, and supporting collection materials
Review project expenses with the Project Manager, research billing discrepancies, and follow up on costs that have not yet been charged to customers
Contact customers regarding outstanding invoices and support timely collection of unpaid contract balances
Draft subcontract agreements, obtain subcontractor insurance certificates, and help maintain complete project administration files
Analyze cost and profitability variances, prepare financial reports for management, and assist with project closeout and audit support as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred but not required
Experience in project accounting, preferably within construction or contract-driven environments
Working knowledge of construction accounting practices, including billing, cost tracking, and project financial reporting
Ability to interpret contract documents, change orders, and subcontractor-related paperwork with accuracy
Strong data entry skills and attention to detail when maintaining accounting and project records
Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with Project Managers, support teams, and customers
