We are looking for an experienced Project Accountant to join a growing construction organization in Cincinnati, Ohio. This Long-term Contract position will play a central role in managing the financial side of active projects, with a strong focus on billing accuracy, contract compliance, and project cost visibility. The role works closely with operations, payroll, estimating, billing, and leadership teams to support sound financial processes throughout the full project lifecycle.
Job Responsibility
Oversee project invoicing activities for multiple business lines, ensuring charges are prepared accurately and submitted on schedule based on customer agreements
Examine field reports, tickets, work orders, and backup materials to confirm billable activity is complete, correct, and properly documented
Monitor project financial performance by tracking costs, committed spend, approved changes, retainage balances, and overall billing progress
Work with operations and project stakeholders to resolve invoice discrepancies, clarify missing support, and address job cost issues promptly
Contribute to month-end accounting activities related to project performance, billing, and financial reconciliation
Maintain complete and well-organized electronic project files, including billing records, contracts, and supporting financial documentation
Review contracts, purchase orders, subcontract documents, and related agreements to ensure administrative and billing requirements are understood and followed
Set up and maintain accurate project records in Deltek ComputerEase while supporting change order tracking, contract updates, and audit documentation requests
Collaborate with leadership to strengthen project financial reporting and recommend improvements to billing, contract administration, and workflow efficiency
Requirements
Prior experience in construction or project-based accounting environments with responsibility for billing and contract administration
Strong knowledge of customer invoicing, account reconciliation, billing statements, and project cost tracking
Ability to interpret contracts and supporting documents to ensure compliance with billing terms and project requirements
Hands-on proficiency with Deltek ComputerEase or similar construction accounting software
High level of accuracy and attention to detail when reviewing financial records, job documentation, and invoice support
Effective communication skills with the ability to partner across operations, payroll, project teams, and leadership
Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, highly collaborative in-office setting
