The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial reporting, budgeting, and cost controls for assigned projects. The Project Accountant will be responsible for bank reconciliations, accounts payable, AIA billing, and month end close. The Project Accountant will partner closely with project managers and operations to ensure accurate tracking of project costs, revenue recognition, billings, and compliance with contractual and accounting requirements.
Job Responsibility:
Manage project setup, cost tracking, and financial reporting from project initiation through closeout
Monitor project budgets, forecast costs, and analyze variances against actuals
Prepare and process project billings, including progress, time & materials, and cost‑plus billing
Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and company policies
Track and reconcile project costs, including labor, subcontractors, overhead, and materials
Prepare monthly project financial statements and support close activities
Collaborate with project managers to provide financial insights and recommendations
Review contracts to ensure billing terms, compliance, and margin expectations are met
Support audits by providing project documentation and financial support as needed
Requirements:
Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Strong attention to detail and financial accuracy
Nice to have:
Experience supporting construction, engineering, professional services, or manufacturing projects
Exposure to job cost accounting and WIP reporting
Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, JD Edwards, Deltek)
Prior collaboration with project managers or operations teams
Understanding of contract types (T&M, fixed fee, cost‑plus)
