Job Description:

Progression Coach (Support Worker) role at St Basils, working with young people with challenging behaviours and complex needs. The role involves service delivery and housing services functions to support young people in finding and keeping a home, developing skills, and preventing homelessness.

Job Responsibility:

  • Participate in the delivery of services to young people, which will include undertaking needs, risk, and vulnerability assessments, developing support and risk management plans, and lead /participate in case review meetings and multi-agency meetings
  • Develop and deliver life and social skills programmes in individual and group work settings and facilitate the participation of young people in their support plans
  • Support young people to make their voices heard and enable them to participate in activities and events
  • Support young peoples’ engagement with work and learning, develop positive family and other support networks, assist young people to maintain accommodation and to provide support with any problems which may arise
  • Ensure young people feel supported and encourage them to engage with internal and external services as part of their support
  • Alongside the team provide psychologically informed environments for young people in our services
  • Support and encourage young people to undertake the St Basils life skills programme and to achieve qualifications and sustain education, training, and employment opportunities
  • Establish and develop links with training providers, employers, volunteering networks to improve access to training and work opportunities for young people
  • Organise and accompany young people to appointments as appropriate
  • Prepare young people to take up and sustain settled accommodation and to continue to provide ongoing support to them
  • Be available to young people for regular support sessions and to respond to crises
  • Maintain accurate records e.g. support plans, day to day records, incidents, and complaints
  • As part of the team, assist in the preparation of accommodation, which may involve setting up starter packs, clearing rooms as and when required
  • Provide regular, person centred and structured outcome focused support that prevent and respond to change or crisis
  • Support young people to access move on accommodation and transition from supported housing into their own home
  • Lead and manage the arrangement and delivery of activities for young people
  • Ensuring benefit claims are made to maximise young people’s incomes and supporting them to pay their rent and bills
  • Supporting young people to manage any debts they may have, manage their rent accounts to help sustain their tenancies
  • Supporting young people to manage their properties and maintain them to an acceptable standard
  • Leading and managing the delivery of formal and informal resident consultations
  • Managing and resolving incidents of anti-social behaviour in a manner consistent with PIE
  • de-escalating difficult situations and encouraging young people to make good choices
  • Carrying out property inspections, raising repairs and undertaking cleaning duties as required
  • Carrying out non-specialist health and safety testing such as, but not limited to, weekly fire alarm tests, fire drills and monthly emergency lighting tests as required
  • Supporting the letting of void properties
  • assessing the suitability of referrals, arranging, and delivering property viewings, and arranging sign ups and inductions
  • Providing access for contractors, St Basil’s staff and other third parties in accordance with the requirements of tenancy and licence agreements
  • Supporting young people to set up accounts with utilities providers and councils and helping them to understand their payment responsibilities
  • Supporting the recharge process where damage has been caused by a young person

Requirements:

  • NVQ level 3 in health & social care, advice and guidance, or other relevant / equivalent qualification (or prepared to work towards)
  • Working with young people in the following settings/Types of work – Youth Work, Residential or Social Work, Probation, Community Work, Education and Training, Housing
  • Experience of working with and delivering a service through payments by outcomes PBO or PBR
  • Experience of working with young people with multiple complex needs
  • Experience of Safeguarding vulnerable children, young people, or adults
  • Up to date Knowledge of current welfare rights & relevant legislation
  • Up to date knowledge of housing legislation
  • Up to date Knowledge of the children, adults, and associated care acts

Nice to have:

  • NVQ level 4 or above in care, advice and guidance or other relevant / equivalent qualification (i.e. Youth or Social Work) or working towards this
  • Experience of working in a Psychologically Informed environment
  • Experience of working with people with Dual Diagnosis
  • Working with volunteers/students
  • Up to date Knowledge of Ofsted supported accommodation requirements
  • Up to date Knowledge of Housing Benefit UC rent Systems
  • Up to date Knowledge of mental health, domestic abuse, drug and alcohol and homelessness legislation
