Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Operational Safety Program Manager to drive effective safety programs for fleet operators within Uber’s autonomous mobility and delivery ecosystem. This role demands a deep understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) as applied to autonomous vehicle operations, encompassing both supervised and driverless configurations. You will lead the establishment and execution of safety protocols, including incident response, safety concern reporting, and performance metrics. Beyond day-to-day oversight, you will be instrumental in developing Uber’s internal safety standards and audit frameworks to be adopted by our global AV partners. This is a highly cross-functional position that requires a unique blend of program management expertise, technical knowledge of industry standards, and the ability to influence stakeholders across a rapidly evolving industry.

Job Responsibility

  • Support Uber’s internal stakeholders and external partners on the best practices, lessons learned and pitfalls associated with the implementation of safety management systems specific to autonomous vehicles, including the four pillars of Safety Policy, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotions
  • Execute on and support safety programs specific to the use of vehicle operators in commercial activities
  • Support the management of safety programs from inception to operations, ensuring adherence to timelines, key milestones, and strategic objectives. Support cross-functional teams and external partners on operational safety of AV fleets
  • Support Uber’s AV partners and fleet operators to carry out Safety Assurance and Risk Management activities
  • Stay current with safety & health industry trends, is a member of professional safety associations and has a strong network of safety professionals for best practice sharing

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience supporting the implementation and management of safety management programs in a transportation sector (AV’s, aviation, automotive, trucking, maritime, etc.)
  • Experience supporting or executing safety programs related to the use of vehicle operators for development, testing and operations
  • Proven track record supporting safety programs, particularly at in the AV or Aviation industry, with experience contributing to cross-functional and cross-industry teams
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with the ability to work across different cultures and industries
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering, or related technical fields

  • Experience performing data analysis and statistical analysis of operational safety data to generate safety performance indicators
