Job Description:

This role is a local hire position and not an International Service Program (ISP) assignment; only candidates who are eligible to be hired locally in the job location will be considered. GM's Design Organization is seeking a Program and Studio Manager in GM China who will be responsible to support the Executive Director of Design, manage multiple highly complex vehicle programs, and lead a high‑performing Design Program Management team. The person will act as the Chief of Staff in GM China studio to the Executive Director, work to represent Design in Engineering and Program Team meetings-particularly with a Joint Venture partners and strategically manage a studio to ensure that our vehicle designs have world class craftsmanship, quality, usability, and an engaged customer experience.

Job Responsibility:

  • Chief of Staff to the Executive Director of Design (EDoD) with ownership of the EDoD Weekly Staff meetings, EDoD’s Design Reviews, POPs (Program OPerations meeting), multiple meetings with Marketing/Program/Engineering and development & implementation of strategic goals
  • Manage cross-functional execution of Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) deliverables, with direct reports (Design Program Management team), with goal of 100% on-time performance with quality
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with Joint Venture partners for the smooth program executions and brand consistency & alignment
  • Strategically manage studio operations, with direct report (Design Program Management team), in-line with program priorities
  • Represent the voice of Design cross-functionally and the strong neutral voice of the program internally
  • Voice of the customer relative to communicating and enforcing agreed upon studio deliverables
  • Partner with Design Director, Sculpting Managers, Studio Vehicle Architecture Managers to manage programs
  • Disciplined approach to managing approved Program Plan of Record – content, architecture, targets, etc.
  • Disciplined approach to managing approved Program Timing for milestones, deliverables, and tasks – making program status highly visible, holding the program team accountable, anticipating potential program risks/issues, and escalating late delivery appropriately
  • Represent Design Center at Program Execution Team meetings for all studio activities – cost, content, quality, and program timing negotiations
  • Single point of contact for program issues within the studio
  • Lead the studio Program Operations team for assigned programs
  • Identify, resolve and escalate program execution issues to leadership in a timely manner
  • Actively manage change control in the studio for respective programs
  • Supervise, develop and performance manage Design Program Management team
  • Schedule and conduct major program milestones’ reviews for internal and global
  • Develop Operating Plans in support of program timing
  • Responsible for Confidential Image Request process by brand
  • Work closely with Sculpting team for asset development and ensure accurate forecasting of property requests
  • Manage a high-level of ambiguity by creating deliverables and milestones for non-templated work
  • Support the identification and development of opportunities to enhance existing processes and tools to drive efficiencies

Requirements:

  • 5 plus years of GVDP experience with ability to coach team members on milestones and interdependencies
  • Ability to be predictive and proactive in an ever evolving, high-tempo work environment that is dependent on collaboration, decisiveness, and a high degree of innovative thinking
  • Ability to think and work from strategic perspective and find a long-term solution
  • Exceptional team building, mentoring and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to complex problems where effects of decisions are critical and have strong influence on future state products
  • High level of facilitation skills to drive meetings to accomplish required objectives
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skill, experience or training
