The Program Advisor is responsible for coaching incoming Providence Public School District (PPSD) high school students through their high school career and guiding students on their college application process, coordinating opportunities for students to explore colleges, securing advantageous financial aid packages and supporting their transition to college. This work will happen through one-on-one advising meetings and group workshops for students and families in coordination with other BCSP staff both virtually and in-person.
Job Responsibility:
Provide student advising and lead delivery of college access information and materials
Advise high school students and their families through the college admissions and financial aid process
Program, administration, caseload and data management
Creation of events, workshops, and cultivating K-12 and post-secondary partnerships
Maintain up to date knowledge on national college access programing initiatives
Coaching incoming Providence Public School District (PPSD) high school students through their high school career and guiding students on their college application process
Coordinating opportunities for students to explore colleges, securing advantageous financial aid packages and supporting their transition to college
Facilitate college visits to a select group of colleges and universities in New England
Research and advocate for internal or external resources beyond those associated with BCSP
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience or equivalent of education and experience required
Experience in student advising required
Experience with college access programming required
Superior computing abilities including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps for Education and basic technology troubleshooting experience required
Excellent communication skills (virtual, oral and written)
Strong presentation skills including the ability to conduct practical workshops and presentations
Work effectively with school personnel, parents, and students
Outstanding organizational skills and ability to do detail-oriented work
Ability to meet stringent deadlines and work under pressure
Ability to troubleshoot in a complex and changing work environment
Must have the ability to work effectively independently, and as a member of a team
Strong analytical and time management skills

Experience in urban schools and/or non-profit organizations preferred
Experience working with first-generation and low-income communities preferred
Advanced experience using presentation tools preferred
Experience working with a CRM (i.e. Salesforce) and other student systems preferred
Experience working with students in a residential setting preferred
