Job Description:

The Profitability & Expense Analyst will focus on identifying opportunities to improve the financial performance across our store network. This role is responsible for analyzing store P&Ls, tracking expense drivers, modeling cost-saving initiatives, and partnering with cross-functional teams to implement strategies and system improvements that enhance profitability without compromising the customer experience.

Job Responsibility:

  • Analyze store-level financials (P&L, petty cash, shrink, supplies, etc.) to identify trends, variances, and improvement opportunities to reduce company expenses
  • Build dashboards and models to track cost metrics and the return on investment on expense-related initiatives
  • Partner with store field leadership, finance, accounting, loss prevention, and other store operation teams to lead initiatives that reduce controllable expenses and improve company profitability
  • Create and maintain a budgeting and forecasting process with a focus on expense targets and cost control strategies
  • Develop and distribute executive-level summaries and presentations with clear insights and recommendations
  • Generate cost benchmarking across various store formats/layouts and geography to understand and surface opportunities
  • Collaborate with data teams to build unified datasets and reporting for field team use to monitor and track expenses at the store level
  • Support the development of automated processes to ensure data accuracy and consistency is priority
  • Review statistical data and analyze proposed policy changes to estimate fiscal impacts and other expense implications.

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and modeling skills with proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • 2-4 years of experience in financial analysis, retail operations, or business analytics
  • Experience with SQL or other data query languages
  • Communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present complex data to leadership

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • Experience in retail/store environments
  • Familiarity with retail P&L structure and operational levers
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
