Under the direction of a Professional Engineer the incumbents will function as an Albany Division Team Leader in Structure Inspection within Engineering Services
Performing and managing the structural and safety inspections of bridges, overhead signs / high mast lighting, bridge culverts, retaining walls and gantries for both in house and consultant personnel
Complete field inspections in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards, NYSTA policies, and when applicable, NYSDOT policies
Access structures via various methods (ladder, platform, aerial lifts, UBIU)
Generation of structure inspection reports
Compile schedules and coordinate traffic control
Complete structure inventory updates any other tasks deemed necessary to ensure the sufficient delivery of the structure inspection program for the NYSTA
Requirements:
Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service to a Grade 23 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1* of the NYS Civil Service Law
All transfer candidates are required to have a NYS Professional Engineer’s license with current registration
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher
OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience
Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems
Nice to have:
At least 3 years of bridge experience in design, construction, inspection, or other bridge engineering work
At least 3 months NBIS bridge inspection field experience
