Valbruna ASW Inc., the premier specialty steel-making facility located in Welland, ON, has an immediate requirement for the following position: PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR. Job Responsibility
Supervises, directs, coordinates and motivates Melt Shop and Casting personnel to meet production targets and ensures quality standards and specifications are met
Oversees the operation of the melt shop and the casting operation, working closely with other departments to accommodate the production schedule and to minimize any downtime
Operates on the floor to maintain proper melt and casting rates, monitors chemistry, and adjusts the operation as necessary
Maintains strong knowledge of melting and casting work instructions, the melting process, casting processes, and pouring equipment
Ensures melting and casting procedures are followed to achieve various grades of steel and that results are in accordance with quality and order specifications
Works closely with Quality to troubleshoot heat chemistries that do not meet required ranges
Prioritizes melting and casting workload based on the production schedule and equipment requirements
Schedules staff, monitors and provides appropriate feedback on progress and quality of work performed across both melting and casting operations
Follows up on progress and completion
Responsible for ensuring current employees and new hires are properly trained in job duties, safety procedures and company policies, for both melting and casting functions
Supervises and coordinates activities of outside contractors as required
Responsible for checking supply and material inventory across the melt shop and casting operations to ensure that no shortages occur which would result in production delays
Ensures compliance with all legislated and company safety policies and procedures
Responsible for ensuring work is performed safely and without undue risk
Conducts routine safety checks, maintains ongoing dialogue with employees on safety, investigates accidents, and maintains housekeeping standards
Cooperates with other Supervisors, team members and departments to maintain efficiency of operation across the full melting-to-casting process
Provides daily update reports and operational progress to management
Completes all other duties as assigned
Requirements
Secondary Diploma or equivalent
At least five years of supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in a steel mill, would be considered an asset
Experience and working knowledge of steelmaking operations including melting, refining, and casting of specialty steel
Must be willing and able to work a variety of shifts, including nights
Proven ability to manage and measure work, prioritize tasks, and adjust to the changing needs of a fast-paced manufacturing environment spanning multiple production areas
Must possess the ability to direct and plan the work of hourly employees
Detail-oriented in all areas of work with excellent organizational and documentation skills
Exhibits strong interpersonal skills, solid computer skills, and written and verbal communication skills
Supportive team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment across multiple departments
