The Production Shift Leader is responsible for directing operations and leading personnel within a rotating shift environment, while ensuring a strong understanding of customer needs to drive growth and success. This role oversees all shift activities to deliver exceptional performance in safety, employee engagement, cost control, productivity, efficiency, quality, and customer service. By fostering operational excellence, the Production Shift Leader plays a critical role in achieving plant objectives and delivering superior results.
Job Responsibility:
Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities
Coordinate and ensure completion of all required safety training
Lead the execution of monthly team safety initiatives
Educate team members on safe work practices and operational standards
Communicate Owens Corning’s safety commitment consistently across the Operations Department
Report, investigate, and resolve all safety incidents by identifying root causes and implementing permanent corrective actions
Achieve customer satisfaction and quality commitments
Understand and communicate customer expectations throughout the Operations Department to ensure all products meet required standards
Ensure timely and accurate production schedules to meet or exceed delivery commitments
Enforce operational procedures to maintain product specifications and quality metrics
Conduct root cause analysis on quality issues with operator involvement and implement effective resolutions
Train and coach operators on problem-solving techniques to drive continuous improvement
Execute Plant’s TPM Plan
Apply Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles to drive operational performance
Lead Autonomous Maintenance (AM) teams through AM Steps 0–7
Participate in and lead Focused Improvement (FI) projects using structured problem-solving methods
Identify and implement process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and results
Communicate TPM expectations and engage all team members in execution
Lead and develop talent
Monitor and enforce compliance with all plant and corporate policies and procedures
Provide clear, candid feedback on performance and expectations regularly
Build and lead effective teams to improve plant performance and support continuous improvement initiatives
Maintain documentation, track performance, and administer coaching and corrective actions as needed
Review and adjust individual training plans based on development needs
Achieve Plant cost targets
Utilize standard work practices to minimize variation and eliminate waste
Develop and implement productivity projects and programs to optimize processes
Drive cost reduction initiatives by eliminating inefficiencies
Allocate resources effectively to meet cost objectives
Engage team members in identifying and executing productivity improvements
Requirements:
Minimum of 3+ years of progressive leadership experience making high-impact decisions in a fast-paced environment
Experience leading, assessing, and developing talent to achieve results within a manufacturing, distribution, or military setting
Employee and Labor Relations experience preferred
Undergraduate degree in business, engineering, or related area preferred
Strong communicator, visionary leader, change agent with Lean/TPM experience
Safety-first mindset, results-driven, team-oriented, adaptable, and passionate about developing people
Ability to meet physical and environmental requirements of working in a manufacturing setting
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, maneuver up and down stairs, and perform continuous standing, lifting, bending, and other physically demanding tasks
Ability to support a 24/7, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment in a non-climate-controlled facility
