The X-37B OTV is the United States’ most advanced, state-of-the-art reentry space craft.
Job Responsibility:
Lay out, set up, and operate lathes and milling machines utilizing manual MDI controllers, 3RD party numerically controlled programs or conventional methods using various engineering data sources ie CATIA, UG¬NX, Model Base Definition (MBD)
Load machine control media or information from Numerical Control (N/C) or Manual Data Input, (MDI) data sheets, check and make required control settings, align spindle to setup points, and place machine in automatic cycle when required
Perform, prove, on Numerical Control (N/C) media and first run parts involving exacting tolerances. Perform MDI, N/C, and conventional machining holding exacting machine operation tolerances when machining compound angles using special holding fixtures
Mill multiple angles using indexing head, straight and single angle boring, drilling, squaring, serrating, slotting, elongating holes, cutting key warp, rough cutting, counter boring, drilling reaming, tapping of single or equally spaced holes on given diameter using rotary table or dividing head, straddle, gang milling, spline, keyway cutting, face, radii milling, profiling and detail tools to exacting tolerance
Cut straight or tapered single lead thread by use of single point cutting tool.
Machine single angles and radii to exacting tolerances, operate and set-up jig bore machines
Set up parts on surface plates and/or Computerized Measuring Machine (CMM) Machine using gauge blocks, parallels, clamps and "V' blocks to place part in desirable position for taking readings with precision measuring instruments
Check machine setup and approve first correct part prior to production run
Set up optical comparator, and similar equipment. Inspect work for acceptable quality, completeness, proper function, and adherence to engineering specifications. Check for presence and completeness of required records and data sheets
Make precision measurements to assure all GD&T requirements are met. Inspect tooling details, fixtures and shop fabricated machine tools for dimensions, workmanship, adherence to tool design, engineering prints, shop practice and procedure, and inspection standards
Perform bench, finish, and deburr operations supplementary to exacting tolerance machining operations
Lay out first run parts, forgings, or castings from blueprint by marking all location points and reference lines to check tooling
Make final company inspection acceptance by witnessing dimensional checks for conducting final operational checkout
Prepare inspection rejection tags and paperwork required for rework if necessary
Stamp or otherwise approve acceptable parts and complete paperwork as required
This environment is emergent machining producing spare parts for commercial applications and space programs within compressed schedules
Set up and operate lathes, milling, jig-bore, and CMM equipment using MDI, N/C programs, conventional methods, and engineering data sources (CATIA, UG NX, MBD)
preferred experience with HAAS, FADAL, Mazak, DMG and Fanuc/Siemens controls
Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication outlines, sketches, and manufacturing work instructions to lay out parts, forgings, or castings and mark reference points for tooling and first-run setups
Complete machine setups: position and locate workpieces, select/mount/align cutting tools, set feeds/speeds/depths, align spindles, and place machines into automatic cycles.
Verify first-part correctness, approve setups prior to production, and perform in-process and final inspection using surface plates, gauge blocks, parallels, V blocks, optical comparators, and CMMs
Document quality results: prepare rejection/rework paperwork, stamp/approve acceptable parts, perform bench/finish/deburr operations, and support emergent spare parts machining for commercial and space programs on compressed schedules
Works under general supervision
This position is typically on 1st shift, however, as business conditions change, the selected candidate should be able to work any shift (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) if needed to support mission requirements

Ability to pass an annual propellant and Self Contained Atomospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) physical and training for both category I and IV SCAPE operations
10+ years of experience setting up and operating Manual and CNC machines
10+ years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators
10+ years of experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
10+ years of experience working with powered hand tools
Experience with reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, material processes, schematic and diagrams
Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8-hour shift
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
