A fast-growing, private equity-backed distributed energy platform is seeking a Product Engineering Manager / Director to lead a high-performing engineering team focused on microgrid and distributed energy system design. This role will play a critical part in shaping technical standards, product strategy, and engineering execution across a diverse portfolio of projects including solar, energy storage, and conventional generation.
Job Responsibility
Lead and develop a team delivering power systems engineering expertise across microgrid and distributed energy projects
Define and implement engineering standards, best practices, and internal guidelines
Provide technical oversight on electrical design, controls, protection systems, and power system studies
Review project designs and sequences of operation to ensure technical accuracy and quality
Own and drive technical roadmap and long-term product strategy for microgrid solutions
Partner cross-functionally with development, commercial, and execution teams to deliver optimized, cost-effective systems
Support integration of DER assets including solar, BESS, switchgear, and generation systems
Lead team growth, mentorship, and performance management
Improve team effectiveness through tools, processes, and resource planning
Requirements
10+ years of experience in power systems engineering, with leadership experience building and managing teams
Strong expertise across distributed energy technologies (solar, storage, generation, switchgear)
Deep understanding of microgrid systems, including grid-parallel and islanded operations
Experience with relay protection, switchgear (MV), and power system analysis
Knowledge of interconnection processes and U.S. power markets
Familiarity with controls systems and DER integration strategies
Strong communication skills with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (power focus preferred)
