The Product Sustaining Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the lifecycle of consumer window fashion products, from prototype through launch and ongoing sustainment. This role provides hands-on mechanical engineering expertise to resolve quality issues, improve manufacturability, and ensure product robustness while collaborating cross-functionally with manufacturing, supply chain, and product management. The position directly impacts operational KPIs and MBOs related to product quality, cost, manufacturability, and time-to-market.
Job Responsibility
Analyze mechanical components, mechanisms, and assemblies to identify design weaknesses, quality failures, and opportunities for improvement in new product launches and in-field sustainment
Modify and support existing products to ensure long-term quality, safety, durability, and performance
Design and refine components and assemblies using parametric 3D CAD software (SolidWorks), supporting plastic injection molding, extrusions, and mechanical assemblies
Define, develop, and execute test methods, parameters, and validation plans to assess product safety, durability, and feasibility
Lead root cause analysis for nonconforming materials or processes
recommend and communicate short-term and long-term corrective actions
Coordinate and support prototype and test builds, ensuring design for manufacturability through close collaboration with fabrication and manufacturing teams
Conduct design reviews, tolerance stack-up analyses, FMEA assessments, and statistical data validation to ensure design robustness and Six Sigma principles
Approve first article inspections and audit fabrication processes, equipment, operators, and quality systems to ensure compliance and effectiveness
All other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of 4-5 years of experience designing mechanical components
Solid working knowledge of plastic injection molding processes and material properties
Solid understanding of aluminum, wood and plastic extrusions
familiarity with die casting, metal stamping, and machined parts
Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar solid modeling CAD systems
Strong mechanical engineering foundation, including statics, dynamics, spatial reasoning, and assembly design
