The primary responsibility of this role is to collaborate with part suppliers and contract manufacturers on both new and existing products to resolve product and process issues. This position requires strong engineering fundamentals, hands-on technical problem-solving capabilities, and solid design expertise to improve or correct products throughout their lifecycle.
Job Responsibility:
Partner with the NPI team on new product introduction projects, working closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement, Sourcing, and Operations to ensure a smooth transition from design to stable mass production
Support the design of 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for components involving mechanisms, sheet metal structures, plastic housings, and gearing systems
Conduct Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), Design for Inspection (DFI), and Design to Cost (DTC) reviews
Drive cost-reduction initiatives through Value Engineering and Design-to-Cost principles across the product development lifecycle
Review and approve tooling and manufacturing processes for fabricated parts, including First Article Inspection (FAI) and verification of form, fit, and function
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for product and process issues using structured problem-solving methodologies
Apply statistical tools, including process capability studies and Design of Experiments (DOE), to optimize product and process performance
Perform functional and reliability testing during validation and verification phases in collaboration with the Quality team
Work closely with suppliers and contract manufacturers to qualify tooling, materials, jigs, and fixtures
Monitor customer feedback and field performance data to drive continuous improvement and inform future product enhancements
Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Requirements:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 4 years of experience developing and launching consumer products, electro-mechanical devices, medical devices, automotive components, or similar in a high volume manufacturing environment
Strong training and hands-on experience with statistical-based problem-solving methods for product and process improvement
High proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies such as 8D and 5-Why
Proficiency in Pro/ENGINEER (Creo) is highly preferred
SolidWorks experience will also be considered
Experience with FEA simulation is an added advantage
Strong interest and aptitude in robotics, kinematics, dynamics, mechatronics, and mechanism design
Experience in injection-molded plastic part design, tooling best practices, and process parameter optimization
Proven experience bringing products from concept through high-volume manufacturing
Familiarity with sheet metal design and fabrication processes
Knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques, including hands-on experience with 3D printing, is a plus
Solid understanding of GD&T principles
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently
Strong verbal and written communication skills
