As a Product Design Engineer at 1X Technologies, you will design and develop hardware for advanced robotic systems. You will work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and manufacturing teams to bring concepts from early prototypes through DFM and into production. The role emphasizes robust mechanism design, tight tolerances, reliability, and testability in complex electromechanical assemblies, with particular focus on flex circuits and PCBs. You will own key design decisions, engage directly with suppliers, and produce clear documentation to ensure high-quality products are delivered reliably at scale.
Job Responsibility:
Design and develop mechanical components and electromechanical assemblies from concept through production
Create detailed CAD models, drawings, and GD&T for parts and assemblies
Collaborate with electrical and firmware engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, wiring, and PCBs/flex circuits
Lead prototype builds, hands-on assembly, and iterative testing to validate performance
Drive design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA) and cost reduction with manufacturing partners
Plan and execute verification and reliability tests
analyze failures and implement corrective actions
Manage BOMs, ECOs, and product documentation in PLM/PDM systems
Support field issues and continuous improvement with root-cause analysis and fixes
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or related field
5+ years experience designing and shipping consumer products/automotive/ robotics/industrial products
Expertise in 3D CAD and engineering drawings with GD&T
Experience with prototyping methods and hands-on build/debug in a lab environment
Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate design intent clearly
Familiarity with thermal, vibration, and structural considerations for ruggedized products
Experience with design reviews, requirements, and validation/verification workflows
Proficiency with BOM management and change control (ECO) processes
