Job Description

The Product Costing Consultant Expert is responsible for leading end-to-end product costing initiatives, ensuring accuracy in cost accounting, and driving strategic insights that improve margins and operational efficiency. This role combines deep expertise in cost accounting methodologies with strong ERP (SAP preferred) capabilities and cross-functional collaboration to influence business outcomes.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead product costing processes including standard cost development, cost roll-ups, and variance analysis
  • Configure and maintain ERP systems (SAP CO-PC preferred) to support accurate and scalable costing processes
  • Establish and implement cost accounting policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis across materials, labor, overhead, and manufacturing variances
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes related to inventory valuation and cost of goods sold
  • Analyze and reconcile variances (price, usage, volume, efficiency) and provide actionable recommendations
  • Support transfer pricing and intercompany costing across multi-entity environments
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (US GAAP, IFRS) and internal controls
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to identify cost drivers and optimization opportunities
  • Provide costing insights for product launches, transitions, and make-vs-buy decisions
  • Develop cost models, dashboards, and reporting tools to support planning and executive decision-making
  • Lead system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements related to costing functionality
  • Drive process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Train and mentor stakeholders on costing methodologies and systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in product costing, cost accounting, or management accounting
  • Strong hands-on experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP CO (CO-PC Product Costing)
  • Proven experience in manufacturing or consumer goods environments with understanding of production cost flows
  • Expertise in standard costing, actual costing, and variance analysis
  • Experience supporting financial close, inventory valuation, and COGS calculations
  • Demonstrated success leading costing system implementations or enhancements
  • Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA and Material Ledger functionality preferred
  • Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SAP Analytics Cloud
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting methodologies (e.g., absorption costing, activity-based costing)
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS related to inventory and cost accounting
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and translate complex concepts into actionable insights
  • Experience working in global, cross-functional, and fast-paced environments
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience in automation or process optimization initiatives
