This is a newly created, permanent role based at Freightways head office in Penrose. Reporting to the GM Mail and Network, the Procurement Manager will establish the Group’s procurement function from scratch, across a significant portfolio of spend spanning NZ and Australian entities. It is a rare greenfield opportunity at a meaningful scale, backed by executive sponsorship and a clear commercial mandate.
Job Responsibility
Design and implement a fit-for-purpose procurement operating model and governance framework across the Group
Develop procurement policies, delegation of financial authority frameworks, and category strategies
Lead strategic sourcing initiatives across priority spend categories, including fuel, forklifts, refrigeration, aviation, health and safety, and operational expenditure
Deliver measurable cost savings and value improvements, with early targets already identified across 5-6 spend areas
Establish supplier segmentation and management frameworks, building accountability and performance metrics across key supplier relationships
Lead complex negotiations and contract structuring across long-standing, commercially significant supplier relationships
Act as the primary procurement business partner to General Managers and functional leaders across the Group
Build procurement capability and commercial thinking across the business through coaching, tools, and stakeholder engagement
Requirements
Proven experience in a complex, multi-site or multi-business procurement environment, with a strong track record of commercial value delivery
Demonstrated experience building or significantly transforming a procurement function – greenfield or near-greenfield experience is highly regarded
Strong commercial negotiation capability, with experience leading at the table across complex, high-value supplier relationships
High EQ and exceptional stakeholder management skills – this is a relationship business, and the ability to extract value without damaging long-standing supplier partnerships is critical
Self-directed and comfortable operating with limited infrastructure and in ambiguous environments
Experience in freight, logistics, aviation, or similarly operational environments is advantageous
Background in a complex corporate or multi-brand is highly regarded
Relevant tertiary qualification in procurement, commerce, or a related discipline
CIPS or equivalent preferred but not essential
