This is a Level 6 leadership role focused on driving strategic procurement to support high-volume manufacturing. The primary objective is to lead sourcing activities that ensure production lines remain operational without compromising on cost or quality. The Purchasing Manager acts as both a mentor within the department and a key collaborator across the broader organisation.
Job Responsibility
Strategic Planning: Develop procurement strategies that align with business goals, translating sales and production forecasts into actionable purchasing plans
Commercial & Budgetary Management: Negotiate pricing and payment terms, manage the department's OPEX budget, review yearly material budgets
Inventory & Risk: Monitor inventory levels for raw and packaging materials to eliminate obsolescence and ensure zero liability on purchase order cancellations
Compliance: Take full ownership of food safety and address any non-compliance challenges within the supply chain
Sourcing & Negotiation: Conduct strategic sourcing for direct and indirect materials and negotiate pricing and payment terms
Planning: Translate sales and production forecasts into concrete purchasing plans
Performance Tracking: Monitor and report on KPIs, including cost variance and supplier reliability
New Product Development (NPD): Provide critical sourcing support for new product requests and launches
Budgeting: Prepare and manage the department OPEX budget
Requirements
Procurement Expertise: Proven experience in strategic sourcing and purchasing within a manufacturing environment
Analytical Planning: Ability to interpret sales forecasts and lead-time data to maintain optimum inventory levels
Leadership: Strong people management skills to grow and develop a professional purchasing team
Communication: Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex relationships with key suppliers
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with commodity reporting and financial budgeting
