The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for working with our expert EHS team to support the multiyear construction, startup activities and then the ongoing plant operations for this world class life sciences manufacturing facility. This position reports to the EHS Manager and is part of the Resins and Technology Team located in Muskegon, MI and will be an on-site role.
Job Responsibility
Ensure the site will be ready & compliant with OSHA Process Safety Management regulations and implement/maintain appropriate Cytiva PSM documentation & tools such as site PSM Program policies HazOps and Process Safety Information including the identification of covered equipment
Ensure site’s continued execution of its Environmental Management System for purposes of obtaining its ISO 14001 certification in the future
Coach and support the multiple framework element owners/co-owners to guarantee proper deployment of the Danaher & Cytiva EHS framework programs at the site
Embrace and apply the Danaher Business System (DBS) Continuous Improvement tools & processes for EHS improvement & risk mitigation opportunities
partner with the broader Cytiva Global EHS team for best practice & lessons learned sharing and collaboration across sites
EHS Compliance Management
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, occupational safety and health, or related field required
Master’s degree desirable
5+ years of EHS related experience with demonstrated & extensive OSHA PSM and EPA RMP management experience working in a high hazard industry
Strong facilitation skills in Process Hazard Analysis using either batch HAZOP or continuous process HAZOP
Use of PHA software, ability to execute Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), or use the What-If PHA techniques
Ability to understand process chemistry and interface with R&D to define the operating envelope for a process
Working understanding of how to identify product families and bounding cases to efficiently manage PHAs
Ability to travel – list specifics 25% travel, overnight, internationally and within US
Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 30lb, walk moderate distances/traverse un-even ground, withstand extended periods of standing/sitting, ability to maneuver several flights of stairs and occasionally ascend/descend ladders, stoop/kneel to investigate indoor/outdoor EHS concerns
Nice to have
EHS Professional Certification (eg. CIH
CSP) or Accredited Process Safety Engineer (iChemE)
Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections
