As a Research and Development Engineer Intern, you will be responsible for improving processes, creating prototypes, and expanding laboratory capabilities as part of the CCS. You will work closely with the R&D Design Engineers to build and analyze prototype injection molds and develop a vapor smoothing system for the Additive Manufacturing Lab.
Job Responsibility:
Performing analysis of multi-material injection molds, including flow behavior and improvement of thermal properties
Supporting simulation and validation of mold designs to ensure optimal performance and quality
Researching and developing a vapor smoothing system for improving surface finish and dimensional accuracy of 3D-printed prototype parts
Conducting experiments and trials to evaluate smoothing effectiveness and process parameters
Requirements:
Actively pursuing a bachelor’s (upcoming juniors & seniors) or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering from an accredited university
Coursework in injection mold design, heat transfer and design for manufacturability
Proven strong academic performer with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Basic understanding of injection molding processes, polymer properties, and additive manufacturing
Must possess unrestricted work authorization and not require future sponsorship
Nice to have:
Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and simulation tools
Have experience with mold flow analysis, particularly thermal analysis
Have experience working in a laboratory with prototyping and manufacturing equipment
Demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
