Job Description:

ATI is seeking to hire a Process Controls and Automation Engineer to join our Process Modeling Team. This role will be based in the Pittsburgh-area, supporting our Specialty Rolled Products business unit it Brackenridge, PA. This position will be responsible for designing, refining, and optimizing mission-critical automation systems that power specialty materials production. This role offers hands-on experience with advanced process models, simulation, and commissioning, while collaborating across departments to drive innovation, efficiency, and quality. Depending on candidate experience and education, this position may be filled at the Engineer II or Senior Engineer level.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage and enhance models-based manufacturing systems: simulate new products, implement setups, monitor process health, and refine plant/product models using learning algorithms
  • Develop and analyze feedback regulators for both model-based and PLC systems
  • Lead and participate in problem-solving activities, applying data analytics to process events
  • Support capital projects, by defining requirements, commissioning plans, and testing model performance
  • Ensure quality control throughout the process by monitoring model outputs, validating product specifications, and implementing corrective actions to maintain compliance with standards
  • Maintain system documentation and provide long-term support tools
  • Work within a team of model engineers to establish best practices and cross-train for coverage
  • Share 24/7 on-call support responsibilities on a rotating basis

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
  • Strong background in control theory, feedback control, PID loops, or mathematical modeling of physical processes
  • Experience with process automation, structured text programming (Python, Java, C++, C#, .NET), and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Familiarity with PLCs, MES, and integrated business systems
  • Strong initiative, project management skills, and ability to deliver high-quality, well-documented solutions
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Nice to have:

BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
