The Principal Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining comprehensive training programs for their assigned Epic application(s). This role also creates and manages instructional design content, builds and maintains the Epic training environment, and ensures training materials and sessions align with organizational policies, procedures, and workflows. As a project team member, the Principal Trainer collaborates with stakeholders to support training-related discussions, including system build, testing, and optimization efforts. This role involves designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting training environments and materials while supporting operational users. Certification in the assigned application(s) and training environment build is required to maintain high standards of technical expertise and training delivery.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, deliver, and maintain comprehensive training programs for assigned Epic application(s)
Create and manage instructional design content
Build and maintain the Epic training environment
Ensure training materials and sessions align with organizational policies, procedures, and workflows
Collaborate with stakeholders on training-related discussions, system build, testing, and optimization
Design, analyze, and troubleshoot training environments and materials
Support operational users
Train and credential classroom trainers
Orient and support Credentialed Trainers
Attend meetings, produce timely deliverables, and appropriately escalate issues
Customize Training Wheels, coordinate Curriculum Review Boards, maintain Deliverable Tracker(s)
Complete job shadows, deliver training, support end users, and mentor Credentialed Trainers
Function as an advocate for end users by relaying issues or opportunities for improvement
Develop detailed curriculum content including scenario/workflow-based training and job aids
Build, test, and maintain the training environment
Conduct training for specific application area(s)
Provide onsite or remote support to operational users
Coordinate training for new software releases and updates
Coordinate post-live training for new and existing users
Perform other job duties as assigned by management
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of clinical/technical application experience
1-2 years of experience as a classroom trainer/educator/instructor at a healthcare organization
Minimum 1 year of experience designing and delivering software training curriculum for large healthcare systems preferred
Prior experience in testing Epic Systems preferred
Must attend Application training, Principal Trainer training, and complete certification
Epic Certifications, Accreditations, or Proficiency required within 6 months of hire
Knowledge of adult learners and teaching principles
Proficient knowledge of the healthcare industry
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Strong organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Nice to have:
Prior experience in testing Epic Systems
Minimum 1 year of experience designing and delivering software training curriculum for large healthcare systems
