Job Responsibility
Lead, manage and develop the Trading Standards team to deliver effective enforcement and advisory services
Conduct complex investigations into breaches of consumer protection and trading standards legislation
Provide expert advice and support to local businesses, residents, and partner organisations
Ensure compliance with current legislation including The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations, The Weights and Measures Act, and product safety standards
Work collaboratively with other regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies, and community groups
Prepare reports and present findings to senior management and, where necessary, support prosecution proceedings
Develop and implement strategies to promote fair trading and consumer safety across the borough
Monitor and analyse local market trends and emerging risks to inform proactive interventions
Requirements
Professional qualification in Trading Standards, such as DipTS or equivalent, is essential
Significant experience in a senior trading standards role within the public sector
Strong knowledge of UK consumer protection laws and regulatory frameworks
Proven leadership skills with experience managing and motivating teams
Excellent investigative and analytical abilities
Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with diverse audiences, including businesses, the public, and legal professionals
Experience working collaboratively with partner agencies and stakeholders
Commitment to delivering high-quality public services and upholding ethical standards
