Job Description

The Cloud & AI organization accelerates Microsoft’s mission and bold ambitions to ensure that our company and industry is securing digital technology platforms, devices, and clouds in our customers’ heterogeneous environments, as well as ensuring the security of our own internal estate. Our culture is centered on embracing a growth mindset, a theme of inspiring excellence, and encouraging teams and leaders to bring their best each day. In doing so, we create life-changing innovations that impact billions of lives around the world. Microsoft is one of the largest enterprise service companies in the world. The Azure Security Platform team is responsible for delivering foundational security primitives that protect millions of virtual machines, disks and customers running on the Microsoft Cloud. Our team builds and operates core platform capabilities—including Trusted Launch, key management, confidential computing —that ensure Azure’s compute platform is secure‑by‑default and resistant to modern attack vectors. We work across identity, platform security, operating systems, hardware, and global compute infrastructure to deliver high‑integrity systems that our customers trust to run their most critical workloads. Our mission is simple and bold: strengthen the security of the Azure platform at hyperscale, without compromising performance, reliability, or developer agility. We are seeking an exceptional Principal Technical Program Manager to lead the strategy, delivery, and global adoption of Trusted Launch and other security initiatives across Azure. In this role, you will drive long‑term security innovation, define multi‑year product roadmaps, and orchestrate complex cross‑organization programs that span compute, identity, platform security, and engineering systems. You will influence engineering architecture, partner closely with senior leaders, and bring clarity to deeply technical and ambiguous problem spaces. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building secure cloud platforms, shaping industry‑leading security capabilities, and driving programs that have material impact on the global security posture of Azure. Successful candidates bring strong security intuition, excellent communication, data‑driven decision‑making, and the ability to lead at scale.

Job Responsibility

  • Drive the end to end program vision, roadmap, and multi year strategy for Trusted Launch and associated security programs
  • Drive ecosystem engagement across 1P & 3P customers, image publishers, OS vendors, and ISVs with adoption of Trusted Launch
  • Lead high impact, ambiguous, cross organization initiatives spanning multiple teams across Azure including core infrastructure, identity and platform security
  • Generate clarity where ambiguity exists, elevate program rigor, and ensure alignment across multiple engineering and product groups
  • Define and execute feature delivery pipelines (preview → GA → global rollout) with strong risk management, dependency alignment, and measurable exit criteria
  • Establish and own program KPIs/OKRs for security posture, adoption, reliability, performance, and customer success
  • Partner closely with engineering leads to influence architecture, shape design decisions, and ensure secure by default product behavior
  • Prominent executive presence to engage with senior leadership to communicate progress, risks, tradeoffs, and strategic recommendations
  • Proactively identify systemic issues, drive organizational improvements, and create durable frameworks and processes that scale
  • Be a hands-on data scientist with building queries & dashboards to make data-driven decisions – leveraging AI tools for quick turnaround

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
  • These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos)
  • Experience with cloud compute platforms, virtualization, secure provisioning pipelines, or large distributed systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi year technical programs with significant ambiguity and cross team complexity
  • Deep technical grounding in platform security and/or public cloud infrastructure
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to senior engineering and product leaders
  • Ability to shift organizational momentum, drive clarity across ambiguous spaces, and influence outcomes at scale
  • Demonstrated experience steering programs through architectural tradeoffs, operational constraints, and global deployment challenges
  • Ability to influence engineering culture and raise the technical and program management bar across partner teams
  • Experience developing durable frameworks for program execution, dependency management, and organizational scaling
  • Proven success leading cloud-scale or global security programs with measurable enterprise impact
  • Background in authentication, attestation, identity systems, or platform hardening technologies
  • Proven track record of driving data informed decision making, including telemetry analysis, KPI development, and long range planning

Job Responsibility
  • You will translate early-stage research from Microsoft Research and applied R&D into shippable cloud AI capabilities, shaping technical concepts into product roadmaps with researchers, driving execution with Azure engineering teams, and managing external hardware and software suppliers to land critical dependencies on time and on spec
  • You will partner with MSR researchers, Azure engineering teams, and external hardware and software vendors to design technical solutions that span models, systems, and hardware. You will surface the trade-offs and risks behind those choices and make data-driven recommendations to research and engineering leads, and supplier partners
  • You will define what success looks like for moving research prototypes to general availability, the technical bar, the launch criteria, and the cross-team commitments, and hold MSR, Azure, and supplier stakeholders aligned to it through every program milestone

  • You will close the loop from production back to research: validate use cases against live workloads, instrument performance and reliability metrics at cloud AI scale, and bring signal from customer engagements back to MSR and Azure teams to shape the next generation of platform investments
