Job Description:

Come help build the next evolution in Xbox Game Compatibility. Join the Xbox Platform team and leverage your system engineering experience to advance the future of Game Preservation. As a Principal Software Engineering Lead, your work will help identify and outline the specific requirements and technical boundaries for preserving game content, build scalable emulation solutions, and ensure a fun gameplay experience for all players. Our technology solutions are a critical part of enabling the Xbox goal of allowing players to continue to enjoy their games across devices. As the GPU Team Lead on our team you will help drive the technical strategy, architectural direction, and execution quality for graphics and GPU‑related systems within the Xbox Game Preservation organization. This role combines deep technical expertise across the graphics stack with strong engineering leadership, enabling the team to deliver compatibility, rendering correctness, and high‑performance GPU behavior across all Xbox endpoints. You will guide a team of engineers working on GPU emulation, command buffer translation, shader compilation, graphics debugging, and performance tuning across multiple hardware generations. You will partner closely with hardware vendors, platform teams, and other internal/external partners to ensure that future graphics systems remain robust, scalable, and aligned with long‑term product goals.

Job Responsibility:

  • Help define the architectural vision for GPU emulation subsystem
  • Lead investigations into GPU correctness issues, rendering anomalies, performance regressions, and hardware‑specific behaviors
  • Oversee development and growth of GPU engineers
  • Ensure system‑level compatibility across all new and existing Xbox hardware endpoints
  • Drive roadmap planning, prioritization, and execution across GPU workstreams
  • Enforce engineering excellence: code quality, regression prevention, performance validation, reliability, and telemetry‑driven improvements
  • Coordinate cross‑team dependencies with Platform OS, Silicon design, and graphics pipeline teams to maintain execution velocity
  • Influence long‑term hardware and system‑software direction by representing engineering needs and ecosystem constraints
  • Mentor engineers in graphics debugging, low‑level GPU feature implementation, compiler pipelines, and hardware‑aware performance engineering
  • Unblock the team technically by providing expertise that accelerates problem resolution
  • Cultivate a healthy engineering culture of learning, feedback, inclusion, and technical excellence

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience

Nice to have:

  • 5+ years lead/people management experience in performance‑critical systems, graphics engineering, or GPU subsystem development
  • Deep understanding of GPU architecture, shader execution, memory models, and command submission behavior
  • Demonstrated architectural leadership on complex systems with high performance and correctness requirements
  • Prior experience shipping GPU or graphics subsystem technology in a production environment
  • Experience guiding cross‑discipline engineering teams and aligning technical direction across organizations
  • Experience collaborating directly with hardware vendors (AMD, NVIDIA) on architecture, drivers, or validation workflows
  • Experience shipping games on Xbox and PC endpoints

  • Demonstrated ability to lead highly technical, cross-functional execution with engineering teams (APIs, telemetry, experimentation, reliability/SLOs)
  • Solid track record using data, experiments, and system-level reasoning to drive product decisions and measurable business impact
  • Experience building privacy- or trust-related product capabilities (consent, transparency, controls, governance-by-platform, safety/guardrails)

  • Experience with privacy-preserving approaches such as clean rooms, on-device processing, secure compute, differential privacy, aggregation/cohorting, or enforcement-as-code patterns
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple orgs and drive platform adoption through solid UX/devex and clear value

Job Responsibility
  • Own privacy product surfaces end-to-end (PRD → execution → launch → iteration): consent + sign-in pathways, transparency experiences, user controls, and per-surface data scopes across Microsoft AI monetization endpoints
  • Build and scale platform primitives (“paved roads”) for teams: APIs/SDKs for consent state, identity/data-scoping, enforcement hooks, logging/labeling, aggregation/truncation, and privacy-safe defaults that make compliant implementations the easiest path
  • Partner deeply with engineering to ship runtime guardrails that are practical and measurable (e.g., sensitive-topic constraints, youth safety, AI disclosure/labeling signals, policy enforcement points), tuned for latency, reliability, and abuse resistance
  • Improve personalization quality under privacy constraints: define product strategies that raise relevance/quality while respecting consent, purpose limits, and regional constraints
  • collaborate on ranking, retrieval, and measurement design
  • Instrument what matters for trust + revenue: define metrics, telemetry, and experiments around consent rates, sign-in conversion, eligible addressable users, opt-out/retention, personalization lift, fill/yield impact, and revenue gaps vs. plan, with clear diagnostics and guardrail monitoring
  • Enable privacy-safe partnerships through software capabilities: support clean-room / API / data-collaboration scenarios by building enforceable product controls (access, usage constraints, verification, auditing) rather than manual process
  • Drive cross-org adoption and execution: align stakeholders across Ads, Bing, Copilot, Xbox, LinkedIn, and ABK
  • set crisp decision points
  • unblock tradeoffs
