The Copilot Studio team designs and delivers intuitive authoring and runtime experiences that empower citizen developers and pro developers alike to solve real-world problems and extend Microsoft’s family of Copilots across business systems and channels. We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer with a strong front-end focus to help build modern, high-scale, and inclusive user experiences. You’ll work on intuitive authoring surfaces that support diverse personas in fusion teams, translating complex AI capabilities into approachable, high-quality interactions. As part of a highly collaborative SaaS team, you’ll own features end-to-end—from development to production—building automated tests, ensuring quality and reliability, and delivering continuously at scale.
Job Responsibility:
Define and drive the technical and experience architecture for major areas of Copilot Studio, with a strong emphasis on front-end frameworks, authoring experiences, and experience quality at scale
Lead the design of complex, cross-team solutions spanning multiple components and services, setting direction for frontend architecture, performance, accessibility, and maintainability
Partner with senior product, design, and research leaders to shape long-term experience strategy
Influence and align engineering decisions across teams and organizations
Anticipate long-term technical and experience challenges
Set a high bar for engineering and experience quality through technical leadership, mentorship of senior engineers, and stewardship of best practices
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
Must pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Nice to have:
10+ years of industry experience building and shipping commercial software applications or services
5+ years of experience working in a high-scale SaaS environment
Demonstrated experience building and shipping AI-powered product features using large language models (LLMs) or AI tools
5+ years of professional experience building front-end web applications using JavaScript or TypeScript
Experience building and shipping user-facing product features where LLMs or AI-powered tools are a core part of the experience
Experience designing and delivering large-scale, user-facing software systems
Demonstrated technical leadership in building complex, production-grade applications
Hands-on experience building and shipping AI-powered product features where LLMs are a core part of the user or developer experience
Practical experience working with AI tools and coding models
Strong expertise in modern front-end technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and state management patterns
Experience establishing and evolving engineering quality practices at scale
