Job Description

Ergo are seeking a Principal Platform Architect for a contract opportunity in Dublin. Working for an international Analytics company you will be responsible for the modernisation of an existing application platform to enable future growth. Designing application and infrastructure architecture the successful candidate will define and guide the future-state application platform architecture, bridging software architecture, AWS cloud infrastructure, and DevOps engineering practices. This is a hybrid role with long-term potential.

Job Responsibility

  • Define the target application architecture aligned to modular / service-oriented principles
  • Establish service boundaries and ownership models across engineering teams
  • Guide incremental evolution from monolithic patterns toward modular services
  • Define internal vs external API standards (e.g., REST external, gRPC internal)
  • Own / shape AWS account and environment structures (landing zones, multi-account patterns)
  • Define standards for networking, identity & access, security boundaries and observability
  • Standardise CI/CD pipelines, release workflows and environment promotion paths
  • Improve automation maturity, including GitOps and Infrastructure as Code
  • Embed consistent authentication/authorisation patterns (e.g., JWT / OIDC)
  • Ensure auditability, logging and traceability across services
  • Provide architectural leadership, mentoring and cross-team enablement

Requirements

  • Strong experience designing and delivering distributed systems on AWS
  • Demonstrated platform modernisation experience (incremental migration)
  • Deep DevOps capability (CI/CD, GitOps, Terraform/IaC)
  • Strong understanding of containerisation and orchestration (Docker, ECS/EKS)
  • Strong API architecture and governance experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management and technical leadership skills
  • Experience in AWS (multi-account patterns, landing zones)
  • Experience in Docker, Terraform
  • Experience in ECS and/or EKS
  • Experience in Python / Django
  • Experience in Observability tooling (logging/metrics/tracing)
