Job Description:

Peak Nano is seeking an innovative Principal Opto-Mechanical Engineer with demonstrated experience bringing new opto-mechanical products to market. The ideal candidate will bring deep domain expertise in the design, manufacture, and test of imaging optics intended for use in harsh environmental conditions (ex: fire control, night vision).

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead the design, analysis, and integration of precision opto-mechanical assemblies for optical systems
  • Provide consistent, proactive guidance on Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Assembly (DFA) and Test (DFT) to support product development efforts
  • Develop innovative mechanical solutions that align with optical, thermal, and structural requirements
  • Collaborate with optical designers, optomechanical designers, manufacturing engineers, and test engineers to define interface requirements and ensure cohesive product development
  • Guide prototype builds and support optical and environmental performance testing to iterate and refine designs
  • Lead design reviews, provide mentorship to junior engineers, and contribute to best practices in opto-mechanical engineering
  • Document all aspects of design, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications, for manufacturing and quality assurance

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design and development
  • Demonstrated experience with technical delivery of opto-mechanical products from ideation to launch
  • Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX), opto-mechanical tolerance analysis and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Experience with environmental exposure tests and optical performance validation including shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, chemical and UV exposure
  • US Citizenship

Nice to have:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical device industries
  • Familiarity with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V) and systems integration
  • Strong background in structural and thermal analysis techniques, including FEA
  • Knowledge of materials science, adhesives, coatings, and environmental sealing for optics
  • Strong project management skills and experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools
