The Principal Automation Engineer will focus on the implementation and adaptation of new and existing technologies on automation and associated processes in a manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibility:
Provides engineering support to the manufacturing group by troubleshooting and making improvements to equipment and processes
Electrical - Troubleshoots automation systems and complex equipment through PLC, servo, robotic, HMI/MMI, and related process control and automation systems
Mechanical – Troubleshoots mechanical systems associated with automation and manufacturing processes
Manages large scope projects independently with minimal assistance, including cost estimating for process and capital projects
Provides Engineering leadership within a project team which focuses on accomplishing project objectives which includes process improvements and project implementation
Installs, validates, and implements medium to large scope equipment modifications and capital projects
Investigates and analyzes customer problems and develops design improvement suggestions
Performs hardware/software modifications, and documents system functional specification updates while adhering to documentation and change control requirements
Electromechanical systems - Prepares standard operating procedures for new and existing control equipment
The individual will need to be self-motivated and be able to work independently as well as within a multi-functional group to implement and/or manage medium to large-scope process improvement projects
Learn, understand, and apply rigorous quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
Requirements:
Degree in one of the following fields: mechanical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or biomedical engineering
B.S. degree in Engineering and 5+ years related experience or M.S. Degree with 3-6 years of related experience
Experience with programming and troubleshooting robotics and vision inspection systems
Experience in a pharmaceutical or medical device environment - writing and reviewing validation and change control documentation
Display a solid understanding of mechanical systems - including but not limited to PLCs, HMI software, and electrical systems
Effectively operates with multi-functional teams
Displays a solid understanding of theories/practices used by other fields outside primary area of expertise
Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods
Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints, piping and instrumentation drawings
Must be able to provide tangible solutions that that meet business objectives
Understand verbal and written safety and quality instructions (e.g. SOPs, WINs, SOJTs) and read and comprehend written work instructions including words and drawings
Must have basic English written and oral communication skills adequate to communicate with other team members
Nice to have:
Experience with high-speed packaging systems (e.g. Multivac)
Experience with automation/controls
ISO13485 and ISO9001 Quality Management systems preferred
