Reporting to the Senior Director, Government Relations (Federal and Ontario) the successful candidate will play an important role in advocating for policies that support the passenger journey, the airline’s goals and its contributions to Canada while ensuring that the aviation sector and its complexities are well understood. Our extensive footprint requires that members of our team exercise a high level of diligence in identifying new policies and regulations that could have an impact in areas including but not limited to transportation, trade, environment and labour. Core to this position is working in collaboration to establish, foster, and maintain relationships for Air Canada with elected and non-elected officials and their staff at the Federal and Provincial level (Ontario), along with municipalities across the province.
Job Responsibility:
Liaise with elected and non-elected Government officials, stakeholders, community leaders and business association partners to promote policies and regulatory changes that will further strengthen the aviation sector in Canada while enhancing Air Canada’s visibility and presence federally and in the province of Ontario
Build and maintain a network of contacts across political parties at the Federal, provincial and local level in Ontario
Proactively identify and monitor relevant policy, legislative and regulatory developments at the Federal and provincial level (in Ontario) which may impact Air Canada, the broader airline industry and the overall passenger journey
Assist with the drafting of briefing notes, background documents, public presentations and speaking notes for Senior Management and Executives to support Air Canada’s advocacy efforts and strategies
Collaborate with the Community Relations and Partnerships team in the evaluation, negotiation, activation, and communications in relation to relevant regional and national community partnerships
Identify, evaluate and execute on opportunities for Air Canada to garner increased visibility in public forums and events, including those organized by Governments, chambers of commerce, trade and industry organizations
Serve as an Air Canada representative with associations, interest groups and third-party organizations. This may include providing remarks at events where Air Canada is a sponsor
Respond to specific requests from elected officials, including constituency inquiries
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required
Candidates must meet requirements to register with the Federal Lobbyist Registry
Previous experience in Government and/or stakeholders’ relations (5 to 10 years) and knowledge of government decision-making process is essential
Knowledge of the airline industry is a benefit
Proficiency in French and English both verbal and written is an asset
Solid communication skills both written and verbal
Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
Excellent decision-making abilities
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
